Carbon Additive for Green Transportation

The real way to reduce our collective emissions is not by installing solar panel on your roof, or purchasing Lyfts with carbon offsets. For example, the materials that are used to make the products we buy require a lot of energy to extract, purify, produce, and transport. This is embodied energy and it's often an overlooked part of manufacturing goods' carbon footprint.

There are many new technologies that reduce the embodied energies in both natural and synthetic materials. 3D-printing, or additive manufacturing is a great example. This technology uses UV liquid polymers in order to build 3D items layer by layer. The result is lighter, more efficient geometry and less material.

Another exciting technology is the use of captured carbon as a replacement for virgin petroleum in the production of transportation fuels and consumer products such as shampoo, vodka, clothing, and PET plastic. LanzaTech is a microbe driven startup that uses carbon dioxide, water and electrochemical processes to create green hydrogen and other chemical products from raw biomass.
