Electrically Calcined Anthracite For Carbon Anode Paste Production

Electrically Calcined Anthracite is a heat-treated anthracite coal that is used in carbon anode paste production, cathodic carbon block, and carbon brick. The product has low ash content, low phosphorus levels, and low sulfur. These characteristics make it reliable, safe and of high quality. The dense mineralized anthracite rock is very tough and hard. It can range from brown to black and was formed over a long period of time by compaction of layers of fine silts and sands. The unique coal type, anthracite can be utilized in a variety of ways. However, its thermal and chemical properties make it particularly useful for the metallurgical industry.

Anthracite is electrically calcined for the production of carbon anode powder. This process involves heating anthracite at temperatures above 2000 degrees Celsius in a DC Electric Calciner. The heat eliminates volatile and moisture-containing matter and increases density, electrical conductivity and mechanical strength. It also improves anti-oxidation, and anti-sodium aggression. It is one the best raw materials used for prebake electrodes, Soderberg electrode paste and ramming.

Electrode Paste in various shapes is fed to the columns of smelting furnaces: cylindricals, eggs, polygonal blocks and briquettes. The shape and the size are related to the different electrode sizes. It consists of calcined petrol coke or electrically calcined athracite coal, anthracite calcined, coal tar pitch as well other additives. It is used as conducting material in submerged arc furnaces while manufacturing different types of Ferro Alloys and Calcium Carbides.

In the Aluminium smelting industries, this carbon anode is used. Parts that are in direct contact with the aluminium liquid or ionogen must possess high-temperature resistance, erosion and abrasion resistence, and be anti-sodium.

In order to produce a carbon-based anode for an aluminum cell, a few essential components are required: anode cement (anode sand), anode anode, and anode oil. The anode coal must be highly abrasion resistant, have low sulphur content and high electrical conductivity. To extend the lifetime of anodes, it must also be able to resist sodium's corrosive effects.

Anthracite gas-calcined coal is used in a specific process to make the anode carbon. The production process involves mixing a specified amount of anthracite with a binding agent to make a particular briquette. The briquette or cylinder will then be baked in a electric arc to create a solid, carbon electrode. The electrode that is produced can then be used to melt non-ferrous steels and in casting. It can also be used in the smelting of other industrial products, such as sludge, slag and sinters. Anodes can also be recycled, which reduces the demand for coal.
