Silcone Carbide Grit for Lava Glazes

When making a lava glaze, the right grit can make the difference between a smooth, uniform finish and a bubbling, crater-like appearance. A silcone carbide grit is a good choice because it produces vapors when heated. Most lava glaze recipes call for fine silicon carbide, but many ceramic suppliers only offer a few different grades.

Graded grit

Silicon carbide grit can be purchased as a loose-grade or fine-graded product. The latter provides better results, while the former leaves behind rogue scratches. You can also purchase silicon carbide grit that's specifically designed for specific applications.

Silicon carbide grit is used in a wide range of applications, including abrasive wheels, slurry, ceramics, and refractory materials. Silicon carbide is particularly good at polishing and sanding ceramics and non-ferrous metals, while its versatility allows it to be used in a wide range of applications.
