Graphite Petroleum Coke Uses

Graphite Petroleum Coke is an essential industrial material that's used in a variety of vital applications. Carbon-based materials are used in a variety of industrial applications because they have high conductivity. DYM Resources has been a leader in the supply of specialty petroleum coke including Needle Coke and Graphite Pet Coke. These advanced carbon materials are engineered to meet the high standards of performance and versatility required by industries on the cutting edge of innovation.

Petroleum coke, in most cases, is made by the thermal cracking process of hydrocarbon fractions within a petroleum refinery. Some of these coke based products are used as raw materials for processing or can be directly used depending on the method used. In the graphite petroleum coke case, conversion to other graphitic compounds like moderator and synthetic graphite can also be done.

Graphite Oil Coke's most popular uses relate to the production of steel. This material is used as a recarburizing substance in the steel production industry. It improves the strength and quality of the end product. GPC also can be used in the manufacture of graphite crusbes which hold molten steel during the casting procedure. Also, GPC is used to produce anodes for the aluminum melting process.

The thermal decomposition of petroleum coke allows for the creation of different types high-purity graphite. This process involves heating up the coke until it reaches 850degC. At this temperature, the organic material is broken down and a gas named hydrogen is released. This gas is then fed into a graphitization furnace, where it is subjected to intense heat and pressure. The end result is high-purity, crystalline carbon with excellent electrical and thermal properties.

Besides its graphite-forming capability, petroleum coke can be converted into a form of petroleum coke known as anode grade coke. The anodes used in the steel, aluminum and titanium smelting industries are made from this type of coke. This coke, which is used to make anodes for the aluminum, titanium and steel smelting industry is made by calcining oil coke in a type of special furnace.

EPCO, also known as expandable petroleum coal (EPCO), is a product with specific applications. The ability of this type of coke to expand significantly when exposed to high temperatures makes it a versatile industrial material. This is done by providing materials such as sealing, gaskets, fireproof coatings. EPCO provides valuable resources for producing graphite electrodes, which are essential for steel-making industries and the battery industry. Because this coke does not emit toxic gasses, it is ideal for use in flame-retardant paints and safety coatings.
