Pure Calcium Cored Wire Development

Cored wires have become a new technical goal and trend for iron and metal enterprises. Cored wires play a very important role in the process of refining outside the furnace of an iron and steel enterprise, such as deoxidation, desulfurization, inclusion removal, fine-tuning of alloys and so on. The cored wires also have the advantages of low investment, and a simple process.

In order to improve the quality of the cored wires, the research and application work on their technical process should be paid more attention. The following aspects need to be emphasized: consistency of powder weight, smooth powder mixtures, stable locking seaming, and so on. The performance and quality can be further improved by improving the cored wires.

The metallurgical outcome of feeding cored metal wires to liquid steel is affected by both the temperature and rhythm of the liquid bath, as well as the speed at which the cored metal wire is fed. The temperature of molten steel should not be excessively high or low, nor should the speed at which cored wires are fed into the bath be inconsistent. The cored steel wire should not have its speed changed. This will affect both the melting time and the oxidation of the calcium-iron wire.

The cored cables for iron and metal enterprises consist of an outer core of molten steeel and a core filled with powder. The outer sheath is a low-carbon cold-rolled steel sheet above SPHC, and the inner core is a calcium metal (figures 1 & 2).

The ability of pure calcium-cored wires to penetrate slag is much improved compared with silicon-calcium cored wires. The penetration rate can be increased. The nozzles can no longer clog at the interface of slag and water. And the time taken for the molten metal to absorb the calcium strips can be reduced. The feeding mass of the steel core pure calcium cored cored wires is only 38% of the silicon calcium cored cored cored. This greatly reduces cost.

It is easier to feed because the wires are not easily stuck. It can also penetrate the slag layer to a certain depth, which can prevent the slag from being contaminated by calcium and can improve the absorption of calcium strips in the molten steel. The pure calcium cored steel can also reduce the slag dump, which is an important advantage in the production process of pure steel. It can also reduce nozzle blockage in continuous casting steel, and eliminate the long strips of sulfide additions. These advantages make pure calcium cored steelmaking wires more popular and widely used. It is used in a wide range of applications such as reducing carbon and silicon concentrations, improving deoxidation and promoting fine grain formation.
