Wire with a pure calcium core is used to make steel in processes other than traditional smelting. The wire may be used in vacuum degassers as well as ladle metallic furnaces. It is used to remove impurities and deoxidize molten metals. The steel is also more machinable and can be rolled easier.
The cored wire comprises a filling (2) extending locally along a longitudinal axis of the wire, the filling comprising at least one active substance for treating the molten metal; and an external wrapper (4) extending longitudinally around the filling. The cored-wire is designed to go into a bath filled with molten iron to carry out a metal treatment. The active ingredient can be either a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, or an inclusion remover.
Deoxidation. By interacting, the wire lowers oxygen levels in molten stainless steel. This enhances the steel's quality and properties. The wire may also be used for desulfurization of molten steel. By reacting with the sulphur it can reduce the sulphur content in the steel while improving its quality.
Inclusion Removal: The cored wire is useful in extracting non-metallic impurities called inclusions from the molten steel. It can do this by interacting with them to form calcium sulphide and oxide, which are then trapped in the slag, eliminating these unwanted particles from the steel.
In addition, the magnesium present in the bar extruded 8 plays a role in nodulising, which allows the formation of graphite spheroids in the cast iron. This improves both the quality of steel and its machinability. This allows for higher mean addition efficiency while maintaining the cored-wire 1 at a low cost.
Using the same feeding equipment as for cored wires, cored wires can be fed. The number of threadings is significantly reduced. Production can be done at a higher rate, and the work intensity is significantly reduced. It is vital in an industry where the goal is to maximize production and reduce costs. The system can be used as a replacement for the traditional lances, which are more expensive and require a lot of maintenance. It is also possible to get the same results by using a lower ratio of powder filling - saving on raw materials. This makes it an economical solution for all steelmakers.
