Electrode Paste Safety Measures

Whether you are looking to improve operation rates, increase output or reduce electrode consumption in your Submerged Arc Furnace, effective management and operation of electrode paste is critical. Maintaining your electrode system properly will allow you to realize the full potential of electrode production. A few simple steps, such as adjusting the furnace depth and ash content to improve raw material quality can help maximize electrode usage.

Always keep the reference junction hydrated to avoid slow or erratic electrode response. Keeping the junction hydrated will help prevent KCl clogging from precipitating out of the filling liquid. Using fresh refilling solutions or soaking in pH buffers regularly will help to maintain the hydrated layer and ensure proper performance.

Always immerse the glass membrane of the pH electrode in the pH buffer or the sample. This will allow the solution to reach a representative pH value that is accurate and consistent for calibration and measurement. To get a representative reading, you should also stir the pH samples and buffers frequently.

If you are using a pH electrolyte, make sure that the skin is thoroughly cleaned with soap and lukewarm h2o and dried before the electrode is applied. A poor connection between an electrode and skin can result in simulation, which can cause pain or even a burn.

The threads of the electrode socket should also be free from abrasions caused by rough surfaces, metal shavings, or sand. If there is any debris in the threads, they can cause a violent collision when the electrode is screwed into place. This can cause damage to the threads inside the socket and reduce the lifespan of the electrode.

It is important to remove the electrode with care after a treatment. Pulling on the electrode could damage the threads inside the socket. The electrode can be easily removed by lowering it flexibly and aiming to the center.

If you are experiencing high abrasion or oxidation in the electrode socket, it is recommended to use a stainless steel electrode cover. This will help prevent abrasions from damaging the socket or nipple.

When not in usage, it's a great idea to keep your electrodes with Ten20 Conductive Gel. This gel is conductive and helps hold the electrode in position. It can also improve the signal quality while acquisition. After treatment, remove any Ten20 remaining paste from the sensor by washing it with warm soapy water.
