It's usually produced by combining anthracite or gas from Gorlovskoye with graphite or coal pitch. Then it's shaped to cylinders and briquettes. This is the main raw material for the continuous self baking electrodes used to smelt pig iron, styrene (including ferromanganese, silicomanganese, and ferrrochrome), calcium, carbide, and other phosphorus-containing materials.
