It is manufactured at Orient Carbon Industry Co., Ltd in two main steps. This is done by first making synthetic graphite. Next, it's impregnated (with phenolic) with resin. Finally, coal tar paste is used to bind this material into Soderberg Electrode Paste. In various forms, such as cylinders and eggs, or blocks, it is fed to the electric furnace in a column. As a conductor, electrode paste can be used in the ion alloy and calcium carbide furnaces.
Soderberg Electrode Paste is made with calcined Petroleum Coke (or Electrically Calcined Anthracite coal), calcined Anthracite and other materials. The paste is produced in self-baking submerged arc kilns to produce different Ferro Alloys, Calcium Carbides and other materials.
