Calcined Petroleum Coke Sourcing Options

Calcined petroleum coal, also known as CPC, contains a very high level of carbon and is used for the manufacture of metals, chemicals, etc. Calcined petroleum coke is created by heating green coal to remove any volatile material and impurities. A solid product with a higher carbon content can then refined to fit specific market demands. Fuels with a large range of applications are a major source of Carbon for many industries.

CPC can be used as a conductor in the aluminum smelting process. It reduces oxygen consumption in the aluminium smelting, and improves control of its electrical properties. In addition, the material is also an excellent source of carbon black and can be used to manufacture other carbon products such as graphite electrodes. CPC may also serve as a possible fuel for fuel-cells, which produce electricity from a chemical reactions between hydrogen and oxygen.

CPC is an important source of energy for many different industries. Therefore, it's vital that the supply remains reliable. Calcined Petroleum Coke is currently experiencing significant changes in production hubs and consumer hubs. New technologies are enabling companies to consume and produce this product in new and innovative ways. These changes are the outcome of various factors, such as evolving industry requirements and regulatory demands.

The production of CPC can help you understand its complexities. The process starts with raw coke that is direct from the coker, or distillation tower. This coke then undergoes further processing in a Rotary Kiln, to produce calcined petrol coke. During the calcination procedure, all moisture that was present in the coal is stripped away by the hot combustion gases. At the same time, volatile hydrocarbons which had been in the original raw coke, evolve and are burned. Coke heated to a constant temperature as it passes through the rotating kiln until reaching the firing end.

Coke that has been calcined can be processed further in an anode bake oven to make anode grade CPC, which is used in aluminum and steel manufacturing. CPC anode is typically made with low levels of sulfur and metals.

As a result of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, refineries lowered their output and reduced production. This led to fewer supplies and increased prices for green coke. One buyer said that refiners, calciners, and others made higher bids in Q2, however buyers immediately rejected them. The price for CPC with vanadium 300-4000 ppm, maximum sulfur 3% and other metals was up to $230-245 FOB Gulfports.
