Petrol coke is also called petcoke. It's a product of crude oil distillation. It is a hard brittle solid that can be granular or coarse. This is the byproduct from a coker unit at a crude refinery. In order to separate heavy and light components, such as sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and metals, the petroleum coke production process requires thermal cracking heavy crude oil. This is achieved by heating heavy crude oil in a coaler to extremely high temperatures where the hydrocarbons break down. The resultant coke may be fuel or anode quality.
Fuel grade petcoke, also known as fuel grade petcoke, is used to generate heat in industrial boilers. It is low in sulfur and ash content, making it a suitable alternative to coal for power generation and other industrial uses. It is also used as an alternative to natural gas in generating steam for refining. Fuel grade petcoke helps reduce greenhouse gasses and other pollutants.
This petcoke can be calcined into anodes for the aluminum melting process. The majority of production is used to produce anodes for aluminum smelting.
