Product Description

YFAM is a new and advanced high performance patented inoculant based on quality ferro silicon for gray and ductile iron foundries. It contains up to 30 times the amount of active ingredient normally found in traditional ferrosilicon-based inoculants. This means that very small additions of YFAM can produce significant chill reduction, nodule counts and mechanical properties increases. It can be used as a ladle additive or in-stream inoculant. It also can be purchased as a tablet or pressed briquette (InocuBloc).

Strontium inoculants have the advantage that, unlike calcium inoculants, their sulfide substrates are very similar to graphite's. As such, they should be able to nucleate graphite more effectively than sulfide-forming inoculants that only contain calcium. This should help in reducing the chill phenomena and in improving the compactness and anti-capacity of cast irons. Also, strontium inoculants have the advantage that they can reduce the shrinkage defects of castings caused by insufficient inoculation. This makes them especially suitable for thin wall applications such as car parts and hydraulic pistons.

Application

IM SR is one of the most effective nucleating agents available for cast irons. It is an all-ferosicon alloy which reacts with liquid iron to promote the formation of a fine Type A flake graphite. The low calcium level in IM SR ensures that it will go into solution with a minimum of dross formation, and it will perform at temperatures lower than traditional complex inoculants.

The Strontium content in IM SR is a significant factor that enhances its effectiveness. Strontium forms sulfides that have lattice parameters very similar to graphite. This unique property makes IM SR the most potent promotion element available in ferro-silicon inoculants for gray and ductile irons.

IM SR can be added as a ladle inoculant or used in conjunction with ASI’s InocuBloc inoculant tablets and pressed briquettes. In addition to its excellent nucleating properties, IM SR is also a powerful deoxidizer for grey and ductile irons. Using IM SR can reduce scrap rates, as well as improve the strength and machinability of your castings.
